Awards Program

History:
The CanSPEP Awards program was created in 2006 and seeks to recognize members and industry contributors who have had a significant impact on the association. With the exception of the Annual Volunteer of the Year Award, CanSPEP awards are based on merit as determined by the membership. Therefore, not all award categories are fulfilled annually.

Nomination Process:

All Nominations must be made by two eligible members (nominated and seconded) Members cannot self-nominate for any award category Nominations are welcomed from all CanSPEP voting members.

Vetting/Fulfillment Process:
Nominations are submitted via the online nomination form All award submissions will be forwarded to the Past president’s Council (Awards Committee*), who will conduct a blind review process. Note: Any member of the PPC who nominates or seconds a nomination will be recused from reviewing that award category.
The PPC will review and vote (if needed) on each award category and forward selections to Executive Committee for ratification.

Award Presentation:
2019 CanSPEP Awards will be presented at the Annual Conference Gala on Saturday, July 2tth, in St. John’s Newfoundland and Labrador.
Nomination Closing date will be June 6th, 2019

Award Categories

Volunteer of the Year Award
In appreciation of the value the Society places on volunteerism, this annual award recognizes a CanSPEP Member who has demonstrated his/her commitment to the organization with a notable contribution of skills, time and effort in the last 12 months.
The key nomination criteria includes:

  • Leadership of CanSPEP Event, Initiative or Special Project (overall or a key committee role);
  • Demonstration of support and collaboration to other team members (please provide 200 word testimonial);
  • Positive role modeling in attitude and actions (please provide example);
  • A minimum of 2 years of continuous, active Membership with CanSPEP;
  • Can be awarded to member in any category including Associate and Student;
  • Members. (Note: Supplier Volunteerism is recognized through the Partner Award.).

Industry Partner Award
In appreciation of the value the Society places on industry partners, this award recognizes a CanSPEP industry partner who has demonstrated his/her commitment by supporting and promoting the reputation of CanSPEP within the wider industry community.
The key nomination criteria includes:

  • Minimum of 5 years continuous, active involvement with CanSPEP;
  • Participation in CanSPEP events including annual conference, industry day, etc.;
  • On-going referral of potential CanSPEP members to the association;
  • Referral of at least one entrepreneurial event planner who has successfully become a CanSPEP Member;
  • Positive ambassadorship of CanSPEP within the industry (please provide example);
  • Monetary support of CanSPEP is not to be a deciding factor for nomination.

Heidi Wilker Excellence in Mentorship Award
In appreciation of the value the Society places on mentorship, this award recognizes a CanSPEP Member who has demonstrated his/her commitment to mentoring by guiding, supporting and promoting the training and career development of fellow Members and who has had a significant positive impact on their mentees’ careers.

In 2019, the Mentorship Award was renamed the Heidi Wilker Excellence in Mentorship Award in recognition of the many years that Heidi has provided mentorship support to our community.

The key nomination criteria includes:

  • Recipient must have been identified by at least one mentee for providing a significant positive impact on their career. (please include 200 word testimonial) in the areas of:
    • Intellectual growth
    • Career development
    • Professional guidance
    • Positive role modeling
  • Recipient must have provided career development and professional guidance to at least two CanSPEP members or students;
  • Recipient must have a minimum of 5 years of continuous, active Membership with CanSPEP;
  • Recipient must have taught/led/participated as a speaker or panel member at a minimum of two industry events;
  • Cannot be awarded to an Associate or Student Member.

Excellence in Leadership Award

As an association governed by volunteers, we place a very high value on the members who step forward to lend their skills, passion and the required time commitment to the leadership roles. This award recognizes a CanSPEP Member who has made substantial contributions to the Society over a prolonged period of time.
The key nomination criteria includes:

  • The recipient must be a CanSPEP Member with outstanding and sustained service in areas of leadership, governance or the direction of the Society;
  • Recipient must have a minimum of 5 years of continuous, active Membership with CanSPEP;
  • Served as chair for at least two CanSPEP committees;
  • Recipient must have served on the BOD for at least two years;
  • Recipient must have participated in at least two strategic planning sessions of the board;
  • Initiated a program or project that has moved the organization forward (please provide example);
  • Cannot be awarded to an Associate or Student Member.
