Message From The President – June 2018

For the past year, it has been both a privilege and an honour to serve you as CanSPEP President, and oh what a year it was! I won’t lie – it was not easy but then, being President of an association of such strong-willed, passionate, independent and successful entrepreneurs…well, I didn’t think I would just sail through it either. However, it was truly a great year, with many successes. Your board worked especially hard to bring to you the education and social engagement that you have been asking for, and so much more. I want to especially thank all the friends, colleagues and fellow members who supported me throughout the year — without your guidance, knowledge and friendship, this year would have seemed so much longer than 10 short months. (Yes, my term was scaled back by 2 months to align our board term to our fiscal year – a sacrifice I was willing to make.)

I could not be more pleased with our accomplishments this year and I certainly cannot fully take credit for them. The credit belongs to our hard-working, passionate and innovative Board Members. I would like to sincerely thank the 2017 – 2018 Board for their service and share some of our successes:

● We held a total of 12 events; 2 in Ottawa, 1 in Kingston, 1 in PEI and 7 in Toronto
● We hosted 4 Webinars
● We co-hosted an event with PCMA, our first ever, GMID breakfast in Ottawa
● We re-structured our Board term to align with our fiscal year and moved our AGM to our National Conference
● We reached 120 members
● We created a new Partnership Prospectus introducing a CanSPEP Supporter Category
● We created an exclusive Member Directory
● We re-launched the Planner Directory
● We are working toward transitioning in our new AMC

As I move from President to Past President at the end of July, I assure you this is not farewell. I hope to continue giving to the association, and I would encourage all members who can, to spare a few hours per month to volunteer on a committee. It brings so many new experiences and friendships — ones you hope to remember and have for a lifetime. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to lead this association for the last year. I wish everyone a delightful summer and I look forward to seeing you all in Sudbury in July. And if you have not been to Sudbury lately, you will be very pleasantly surprised!
